Scope of Work: Lead Abatement.

At Union Station the lead-based paint on 200 steel beams, above the pedestrian walkway, was in very poor condition with significant peeling and flaking. Sandblasting the beams was not an option because of the potential for lead contamination.

EDI used an alternative abatement method which utilized a high-pressure wash with Chlor*Rid Soluble Salt Remover to remove dirt and loose paint.

EDI captured and filtered all the wash water. Following the preparation, we applied a prime coat and finish coat of Safe Encasement Systems on all previously painted surfaces.

Below are before and after photographs.

Scope of Work: Lead Abatement.

EDI removed and disposed of the lead-based paint on the street level exterior steel window framing along the 16th Street Mall and California Street in Downtown Denver. The abatement of the lead-based paint included all paint from the street level to the masonry and brickwork above the window framing and decorative lintels.

For the second part of the project, EDI was chosen to complete a test on a designated section of the galvanized sheet metal cornice at the roof level. A test consisted of removing all paint from this area and preparing the galvanized surface for paint.

The unique aspect of this project were the containments required. The containment for the roof work was 70 feet in the air built on top of the scaffolding. The second containment was required along the 16th Street Mall and California Street. It had to be built without obstructing the pedestrian sidewalk and not block the entrances to the open businesses.

All work was completed while the building was fully occupied.

Scope of Work: Asbestos Abatement, Building Demolition, Universal Waste.

This project required complete abatement of asbestos, lead, regulated building materials and the demolition of the entire structure.

The asbestos abatement work at the former East Pavilion Hospital consisted mostly of TSI pipe and fittings. 7,000 linear feet of pipe was removed along with 3,100 fittings. 1,500 square feet of transite paneling, removal of fire doors, boiler and duct insulation, gaskets, duct vibration cloth and the caulk from 54 windows.

The demolition aspect of the project consisted of the demolition of the 134,000 square feet of a reinforced concrete structure, including removal of all subgrade foundations.

The unique aspect of this project was the regulated building materials. EDI removed all of the PCB light ballasts, fluorescent bulbs, all stored biowaste and sharps. EDI removed 100 gallons of stored chemicals, in addition to all CFC’s, transformers and capacitors, which contained PCB’s. EDI completed this project ahead of schedule, on budget and were awarded a bonus based on this performance.

Scope of Work: Mold Remediation.

EDI takes great pride in being able to make a contribution to the community and to a great organization like Blue Spruce Habitat for Humanity. EDI employees were happy to volunteer their expertise, time and materials to such a worthy cause as Habitat for Humanity. The local chapter of Habitat was completing two homes in the Evergreen area when they noticed water intrusion in the crawl spaces that resulted in mold growth.

EDI dried the wood, remediated the mold and encapsulated the under decking with an anti-microbial paint to prevent future mold growth.

“… your contribution saved Blue Spruce Habitat $9,190; money which can now be used to build affordable housing–for that we thank you so much.”

Scope of Work: Mold Remediation.

EDI installed equipment to remove standing water from the crawl space areas, reattached batt insulation and secured with suitable fastening systems. Many of the units contained high amounts of construction debris including large boulders over 100 lbs. EDI cleaned mold-like material from floor joists using IAQ 2500. EDI sprayed exposed wood joists with latex paint, containing a fungicide to inhibit mold growth. Crews performed minor leveling in the crawl space and installed 6 mil Canvex, a reinforced polyethelene product which is less subject to tear or puncture.
